Privacy & Security
Let's talk about something most productivity apps would rather you didn't think about: what happens to your data.
Your task manager knows a lot about you — what you're working on, what you're stressed about, when you're most productive, what your goals are. Most apps treat all of that as data to monetize. We think that's a problem.
Clairvoyant was built on a simple principle: your productivity data should be private by default, not by promise.
Your Data Lives on Your Device
Unlike most productivity apps, Clairvoyant doesn't need the cloud to function. Everything lives on your device first.
- Works fully offline - Create tasks, manage your calendar, take notes — all without internet
- Sync is optional - Cloud backup is there for multi-device access, but it's not a requirement
- Everything's instant - No waiting for server round-trips
When you do enable sync, your data is encrypted before it ever leaves your device. The cloud is a backup, not the source of truth.
We Can't Read Your Data (Even If We Wanted To)
This isn't a policy — it's math. The system is designed so that we physically cannot access your data:
- End-to-end encrypted - Data is encrypted on your device before syncing
- We never have your keys - Your encryption keys are derived from your password, which we never see
- No backdoors - Not for us, not for governments, not for anyone
- Your password is your key - Only you can decrypt your data
Even if Clairvoyant's servers were compromised, hacked, or subpoenaed — your encrypted data would remain unreadable. That's the whole point.
No Tracking
- No usage analytics by default
- No behavioural tracking — we don't watch what you click or how you use the app
- No data sales - Your information is never sold or shared
- Crash reports are opt-in - Disabled by default, with personal info scrubbed out
You Own Your Data
Where It Lives
- On your device - Tasks, notes, and settings stored locally
- Encrypted in the cloud - Only if you enable sync, and only encrypted blobs we can't read
- Your call - You decide whether to sync, and you can delete cloud data anytime
What We Don't Store
- Your browsing history
- Usage analytics
- Personal information beyond what you explicitly give us
- Third-party tracking data
Export & Delete
- Export everything - Download all your data as JSON, whenever you want
- Delete everything - Wipe all cloud data with one action
- No retention tricks - When you delete, it's actually gone
Third-Party Integrations
When you connect services like Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook, we use one-way sync — your events come in, but nothing goes back out. Your tasks, notes, and Clairvoyant data never leave your control.
For self-hosted services like CalDAV/Nextcloud, two-way sync is available since you own the server.

Open Source
Don't take our word for any of this. Clairvoyant is open source — you can inspect the encryption implementation, verify our privacy claims, and audit the entire codebase yourself.
