Time Blocking

Ever look at your to-do list and think "when am I actually going to do all this?" Time blocking is the answer. Instead of a vague list of things to get done, you schedule specific hours for specific work. It turns intentions into commitments.

Why It Works

  • You know what to work on - No more staring at your list wondering where to start
  • You see when you're overcommitted - If the blocks don't fit in the day, something has to give
  • Less decision fatigue - Your past self already decided what to do at 2pm, so you just do it

How to Time Block in Clairvoyant

Drag and Drop

The most intuitive way:

  1. Open the Calendar view
  2. Find a task in your list
  3. Drag it onto a time slot
  4. Adjust the duration by dragging the edges

That's it. The task stays in your list and also appears on your calendar as a dedicated block of time.

Right-Click to Schedule

  1. Right-click any task
  2. Select Schedule
  3. Pick a time slot

Natural Language

You can also just tell the AI:

"Work on presentation tomorrow 9am to 11am"

It creates the time block for you.

Making It Actually Work

Be Realistic

This is the number one thing people get wrong. Don't schedule yourself back-to-back from 9 to 5. Leave gaps for:

  • Unexpected interruptions (they always happen)
  • Tasks running over (they usually do)
  • Breaks (your brain needs them)

Batch Similar Work

Group similar tasks together. All your emails in one block, meetings clustered together, deep work in the morning when your brain is sharpest. Context-switching is expensive — batching reduces it.

Treat Blocks Like Meetings

If you wouldn't cancel a meeting with your boss to answer a random email, don't cancel your focus block either. That time is committed.

Review at the End of the Day

Take two minutes to check:

  • What did you actually get done?
  • Were your time estimates close?
  • What should you adjust for tomorrow?

This feedback loop is what makes time blocking get better over time. You learn how long things actually take, not how long you wish they'd take.
